Success Stories

Marla, Roxy and Turbo

Meet Marla, Roxy and Toby! Marla was pulled from the Mamou shelter after she surprised the staff by having 4 puppies during a freezing cold night. She had 4 puppies, unfortunately, two of her babies crawled through the kennels bars and froze to death. Marla and her two surviving pups were pulled and have been safe and warm ever since. Marla had ear infections and the puppies had frostbite on their paws and chins but all have made a full recovery. Marla is a very playful girl, she quickly became best friends with my cockapoo and even brought her into the room to introduce her to the puppies. She loves all toys and food and has even learned a couple tricks. She rings the Potty bells when she needs to go out and she now knows how to sit and shake. Her very healthy babies are getting so big. At 3 weeks old Roxy is 5.3 lbs. They are playful babies and love attention.

It’s been such a rewarding experience being a foster, we have truly fallen in love with Marla, we love all the puppy snuggles and of course…puppy breath.

Rae

Meet Rae a Catahoula mama dog that was living in a halfway house in Bryson City, N.C.. Rae would walk across a 2 lane road to drink from a spring. She was being cared for by a local lady that reached out to Blackjack for a possible foster after Rae's puppies were rescued by another shelter but would not take her. Rae was very underweight and covered in ticks. Rae was adopted by a family in Northeast, Ga and she enjoys being outside as much as possible. She loves to play ball and snuggle on the couch.
